Claude Code team setup: what it costs a service firm

What a Claude Code team setup costs: plan prices for teams of 3, 5 and 10, the cost of a hired setup, and a sample first-year budget for a service firm.

Three laptops side by side on a long table, with a setup budget sheet, a calculator and a pen in front of them and a wall calendar with the first weeks marked

A Claude Code setup for a team of three costs about 720 USD in the first year if you do it yourself. That is the Team plan on annual billing, plus roughly 10 hours of work from someone who knows the tool. Hiring a firm to do the setup adds 3,000–5,500 USD, based on the small-team packages with public prices that I found, which brings the first year to about 3,700–6,200 USD.

In this post I lay out Claude plan prices for teams of 3, 5 and 10, the one-off costs and a sample first-year budget. Prices were checked on 16 October 2026.

What Claude Code costs per month: plan prices

Claude Code has no free version. It runs on paid Claude plans or on an API (Console) account, where you pay for usage (Claude Code docs). Prices per person from the Claude pricing page:

Plan Price per person per month Who it’s for
Free no Claude Code —
Pro 20 USD, or 17 USD on annual billing one person
Max from 100 USD one person, 5x or 20x the usage of Pro
Team, Standard seat 25 USD, or 20 USD on annual billing teams of 2 to 150
Team, Premium seat 125 USD, or 100 USD on annual billing the heaviest Claude Code users
Enterprise 20 USD on annual billing, plus usage 20 seats minimum
API (Console) pay per use, 150–250 USD on average token billing instead of a subscription

The API figure comes from Anthropic’s documentation and covers developers in large deployments: about 13 USD per active day and 150–250 USD per person per month. How much an agency team that writes proposals and emails, not code, will use is hard to predict without a trial. That is why I recommend a subscription with a fixed price for a service firm.

Every plan has usage limits that reset in five-hour windows. On the Team plan a Standard seat gives more usage than Pro, and a Premium seat gives five times more than Standard. I would start everyone on Standard and move only the people who keep hitting the limit to Premium.

License cost for a team of 3, 5 and 10

For a firm I would pick the Team plan. It gives you central billing and account administration, single sign-on (SSO), and no model training on your content by default. On Pro you have to opt out of training yourself, and everyone pays separately. Pro makes sense for a one-person firm, because Team needs at least two people.

Team plan with Standard seats:

Team Per month (monthly billing) Per year (annual billing)
3 people 75 USD 720 USD
5 people 125 USD 1,200 USD
10 people 250 USD 2,400 USD

For three people, annual billing saves 180 USD a year compared with monthly (720 USD instead of 900 USD). Each Premium seat instead of Standard adds 100 USD a month on monthly billing.

You pay for licenses directly to Anthropic. If you get a training or setup quote, check whether it includes licenses or whether you buy them yourselves.

One-off costs: do it yourself or hire someone

The license is the recurring cost. The one-off work is installing and setting up Claude Code for each person, writing shared instructions for the team and answering questions in the first weeks. You can do it yourselves or pay someone.

Do it yourself: 0 USD and about 10 hours

The hours come from our own plan for setting up a team of three. It is an estimate, not a measurement. We plan about 10 hours of work for someone who knows Claude Code:

  • buying the plan, accounts and access to a shared folder of files for the team: about 1.5 hours,
  • installing and signing in for each person: up to 45 minutes each, about 2.5 hours for three people. Non-technical people don’t need the terminal, because Claude Code also runs in the Claude desktop app,
  • shared instructions: a description of the firm, its services and its rules in files Claude Code reads, such as CLAUDE.md, which it loads at the start of every session, and skills, which are files with instructions for a specific task. We plan about 1.5 hours for the session where the team fills them in plus follow-up edits, and about 1 hour for a how-to guide for the team,
  • help during the first 30 days: answering questions and one check-in session, about 3.5 hours.

Each additional person adds about 1.5 hours. If the person doing the setup is new to Claude Code, I think they will need more time than this plan. In a small firm that person also does client work, so their hours are a real cost even if they never show up on an invoice.

Anthropic also offers free self-paced courses, including “Claude Code 101” in Claude Academy (Claude Code docs). They teach the tool, but they don’t set it up for your team.

Hire a setup: about 3,000–5,500 USD

Small-team Claude Code setup packages with prices on the provider’s page cost from 3,000 to 5,500 USD in the offers I checked. They include setup around the team’s actual work and hands-on sessions with the team’s own material, and one of them also includes 30 days of follow-up sessions and questions. In one offer 3,000 USD is the starting price, and the final amount is set after a written scope.

Sample first-year budget for a team of three

Take a marketing agency where the owner and two people on the team start using Claude Code. Licenses are the Team plan with Standard seats on annual billing. This is an illustration built from the pricing page and the offers above, not a client’s budget.

Option Licenses (year) One-off First-year total Your team’s time
Do it yourself 720 USD 0 USD about 720 USD about 10 h from the person doing the setup, plus up to 45 min from each person
Hire a setup 720 USD 3,000–5,500 USD about 3,700–6,200 USD sessions with the person doing the setup

With five people, licenses come to about 1,200 USD a year, and with ten about 2,400 USD. In the do-it-yourself option, each extra person adds about 1.5 hours for whoever does the setup.

Two costs don’t show up on the first invoice. The first is your team’s time: a setup or training session is time away from client work. The second is usage past the limit: on the Team plan an admin can turn on extra paid usage and set spend limits for the whole firm or for each person. If you don’t want surprises, set that limit on day one.

How to compare training and setup offers

A price per day doesn’t show what you will have once the work is done. Before you compare prices, ask each provider the same four questions:

  1. Does the price include Claude licenses, and which plan do we need?
  2. Do we work on our own files and tasks, or on practice material?
  3. Who installs Claude Code on our computers, and do people need to know programming or the terminal?
  4. Is there support after the start, how long does it last and how fast do you reply?

Training alone is enough when Claude Code already runs on your team’s computers, the shared instructions are ready, and someone in the firm answers the others’ questions. If that’s not the case, put the cost of doing the setup yourselves, or hiring it out, next to the training price.

FAQ

Is Claude Code free?

No. The free Claude plan doesn’t include Claude Code. You need a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan, or an API (Console) account.

How much does Claude Code cost per month?

For one person, 20 USD on Pro. On the Team plan a Standard seat is 25 USD a month, or 20 USD on annual billing. A team of three pays 60–75 USD a month on Team. Prices as of 16 October 2026.

Is the Pro plan enough for a team?

It works, but each person then has a separate account and bill, and you have to opt out of model training on your content by hand. When your files contain client data, I would choose Team.

Can non-technical people use Claude Code?

Yes, in the Code tab of the Claude desktop app, without the terminal. They don’t need to know git either: Claude Code prepares and describes the changes when you ask it to.

If you want to do it yourself

You can speed up the shared instructions with a ready-made set of files. We publish a free set of skills and workspace/ folders for B2B service firms (B2BForce on GitHub, MIT license). The prompt in docs/SETUP-PROMPT.md interviews you about the firm and fills in the firm profile and service descriptions from your answers. More on the open source page. We also set it up as a service.

Summary

For a team of three, the Team plan on annual billing is enough to start: about 720 USD a year. Before you buy training or a setup, work out how many hours the setup would take you in-house, and ask providers the four questions above. Then you compare the real cost, not the price of a day.
